Namatala Primary School (Latrines)
Project Location: Mbale
People Served: 1,607 (Sanitation)
Project Funding Needed: $66,500
The Problem
In water scarce areas, flush toilets are not a sustainable option especially for highly populated schools. Namatala has been faced with a high population and flush toilets that can really flush due to the elevation of the school (and town water cannot reach them). In addition, the water bills become too expensive and paying becomes an issue. Therefore, students are left ‘going’ on the ground everywhere in the bathroom and surrounding area…and they won’t come to school if they even think their stomach is benign to hurt with diarrhea.
