Masaba Primary School (Latrines)

Project Location: Mbale

People Served: 1,287 (sanitation)

Project Funding Needed: $11,070

The Problem

At Masaba Primary School, students are facing the crisis of multiple blocks of latrines that are a few feet from being full. As students leave for break in August, we hope we could get new latrines in place by the time they come back. If not, parents and teachers will be forced to dig unsafe, unsustainable latrines. This is a highly populated school that needed to address this – if a choice has to be made- before the DLDT borehole. If students don’t have a place to ‘go’- especially girls- dropouts will rise, and sickness an even death can happen at higher rates. The normal average DLDT sees in primary school population is 400-600 students- this population is over double that. They need latrines, now.

The Solution

Drainable latrines and hand-washing facilities.
