Filters for Families
Project Location: Katanga Slum, Uganda
Sponsor a filter for a family in the Katanga Slum. 15,000-20,000 people live here annually and have no clean water source. Sanitation is non-existent and parents are doing their best to keep their children alive and well. Two contaminated springs and a few unreliable (due to government control of water delivery and unreliable power) and *unclean (unclean when we tested) taps, and a polluted stream are the water sources people have. People try to boil water, but $17 a month is much to spend when trying to feed your family, so it is sometimes impossible. Filters last about 10 years and can be sponsored and monitored for 5 years for $125.
