Greater Cleveland Water Equity Partners
Drink Local Drink Tap has been proud to serve with the Greater Cleveland Water Equity Partners (GCWEP) for the past 4+ years since its inception. As part of the U. S. Water Alliance’s city-focused water equity improvement efforts, Cleveland participated with six other US cities for two years in exploring water equity issues. Through this exploration of equity issues with a dozen partners and other cities, GCWEP was able to open deep and meaningful conversation amongst partners, learn from and with other cities and create a robust and specific Water Equity Roadmap as a path forward.
We looked at poverty, population, employment, housing segregation, education, aging infrastructure, affordability, water quality and perceptions, climate impacts, and flooding. We then measured finding up against the three pillars of water equity:
- Ensuring all people have access to safe, clean affordable water
- Maximizing the community and economic benefits of water infrastructure investment
- Fostering community resilience the face of changing climate
The evolving Greater Cleveland Water Equity Partners identified key target areas of:
Public Engagement
Affordability
Climate Impacts and Resiliency
Workforce Development
